The 13th annual student-led UCO Media Ethics Conference: “Age of Lies and Conspiracies: The Ethics Battle,” will be held on October 1st from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bob Burke First Amendment Center on the UCO campus.
This year, UCO will tackle the pressing issue of misinformation that infiltrates today’s media landscape. Experts from local, national, and international media will come together for diverse panels, offering insight into the current media environment and strategies for combating falsehoods and conspiracies.
Raqib Hameed Naik, Executive Director of the Center for the Study of Organized Hate will speak on the panel titled “Preserving Democracy in the Era of Misinformation.”
Other panelists include Guilherme Canela, the chief of the Section of Freedom of Expression and Safety of Journalists at UNESCO’s Communication and Information Sector, based in Paris; Dr. Sridhar Krishnaswami, the foreign correspondent with The Hindu and The Press Trust of India for 18 years and Elanie Steyn, who is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma.
